Volunteer Information
Announcer (5:30 pm arrival)
Uses a script and a microphone to keep the meet on pace, announces the current event, and calls swimmers to the Clerk of Course. This worker gets to sit in the shade for the entire meet!
Clerk of Course (5:30 pm arrival)
The Clerks lines up swimmers according to the heat sheet. Ideally Clerks are good with names and can be very patient, while stern (in a good way).
Data Entry (5:30 pm arrival)
Puts results into the team website (in a nice, shady spot!).
Floaters (5:30 pm arrival)
Will be available and “on call” in case more hands are needed.
Kid Pushers - General (4:30 pm arrival)
Check in older swimmers upon arrival and ensure numbers are written on their arms. Ensure swimmers in main heats are present. Move swimmers from the Clerk of Course to the blocks, and ensure swimmers move up with each heat.
Kid Pushers - Age Group Specific (4:30 pm arrival)
Check younger swimmers in upon arrival and ensure numbers are written on their arms. Ensure swimmers in main heats are present. Line swimmers up for each event and move them to the Clerk of Course.
Ribbon Writers (This job is done after the meet.)
After home meets: Print labels with names of event winners and their times. Affix labels to ribbons. Place ribbons in swimmers' folders for pickup. Arrange for delivery of opposing team's ribbons to their pool.
After away meets: Once host team delivers ribbons, place ribbons in swimmers' folders for pickup.
Runner (5:30 pm arrival)
Takes any disqualification slips from the Stroke & Turn Judges to the Data Entry worker.
Starter (5:30 pm arrival)
Begins each heat, and calls false starts if there is one. This worker also gets to sit in the shade the entire meet!
Set-up Crew (4:00 pm arrival)
Helps the parent committee prepare the pool deck for home meets by moving chairs, sorting clipboards, and hanging up signs. Done working before the meet begins.
Stroke & Turn Judges (5:30 pm arrival)
Watches each main event. If a swimmer does something that could gain them an advantage in a race, the judge will disqualify them and their race will not count. [certification required]
Take-down Crew (8:30 pm arrival)
Helps the parent committee reset the pool deck for home meets by moving chairs, sorting clipboards, and taking down signs.
Timers (5:30 pm arrival)
When the starter begins a heat (a group of swimmers racing at the same time), there will be a flash from the starting box. Timers start a stopwatch when the flash occurs, then stop the watch when their swimmer finishes the race by tagging the wall. There will be two timers per lane. Each time will be recorded on a timesheet held by one of the timers.
